Why does the quality of sensors matter?

Airly provides an end to end solution to fight air pollution. The first step is to have data. Without the high quality of data, all the following steps - analyzing it, communicating current air quality levels to the community, and proposing ways to mitigate air pollution - will be ineffective and unreliable.

Currently, many low-cost sensors on the market are not high quality and often show incorrect results, which results in the community losing trust in their readings.

High-quality sensors also minimize the amount of support needed in the future, which allows the entire solution to work longer without problems and required maintenance.

The best components

Only confirmed electronic components from reliable manufacturers ensure stability in different conditions.

We tried our sensors in extreme conditions: from the freezing and humid weather of Svalbard to the hot and dry climate of the Middle East, and they have proven to work in these conditions without any problems.

Airly's calibration process for PM sensors

We provide a two steps calibration process for PM sensors. Firstly, all PM sensors are calibrated in our lab test chamber with differing PM concentrations and environmental conditions on our unique field calibration stand. We constantly use reference equipment to perform cross-checks. Only the best sensors are sent into the field.

After installation, PM sensors acquire geographically unique calibration factors based on our unique solution providing the highest quality of measurements in each location we have our sensors. PM sensors also need calibration updates as seasons change, as the sources and nature of pollution change during any given year. Therefore we dynamically update calibration for each location. Additional tools monitor data quality, determine possible sensor malfunctions, and apply corrections if needed.

Airly's calibration process for PM + GAS sensors

The gas sensors calibration process consists of three steps; firstly, they are calibrated in the laboratory. Then these sensors are calibrated on a precise calibration stand in the field using a NO2/O3 reference instrument. Finally, we use network effects after installation in the area and adjust calibration factors to local climate conditions. We regularly monitor the quality of our gas sensor measurements and update if necessary. We also use satellite data for crosschecking for the highest quality.

Certificates for Airly Sensors

Airly sensors were designed and developed from scratch by our R&D Team in Poland, consisting of environmental engineers and PhDs. We place a lot of importance on producing the best quality devices which can operate in various environments and conditions.

The quality of our devices has been verified and tested by many reliable and recognized organizations worldwide.
